Tuesday Quick Tip: Chrome Site Search…

Since I’ve been posting a Biggest Loser recap over on Off Color TV (warning: since it’s off color, you might see some adult-type language and humor), Tuesdays have kind of suffered in terms of posting over here. Therefore, until Biggest Loser is over, I’ll be posting a quick tip that will hopefully show you something new that you can use in your day to day use of technology. I’d like to give a shout out to my friend Brad aka Mr. B, as he had recommended something like this but I couldn’t figure out where to fit it in, but this is a great place for it.

Before beginning the tip portion, if you don’t know what a web browser is, check out this article my friend Patric, aka Mr. Noobie, on various browsers. After you have an idea of what a browser is, come back and finish this tip.

Pretty much the top browser out there is Google Chrome. It is fast, it is minimalistic, and it has extensions. I was fiddling around the other day and discovered a cool little feature that it has. If you type in a web address and then hit the tab key, you can then type in a search term to search for on that particular site.

Unfortunately, it seems to only work on certain sites. I got it to work on Facebook.

Alternatively, you can type you search query followed by a space and then “site:http://yoursite.com” with no quotes around it, to do a similar thing. This works in any browser and from any Google search box.

If you want to try it out, open google.com, and type the following: dropbox site:http://www.thedigitante.com and you will be shown the resulting pages from my site that contain the word “dropbox.”

Got any tips you want to see in a future TQT? What is your most valuable tip you use on a daily basis?

The Digitante Guest Blogging…

Well, the rent went up here at The Digitante HQ, so I’ve had to take an extra job. I’ll now be blogging about The Biggest Loser over at Off Color TV. The post that is up there currently is the Season 9 preview.

Biggest Loser is on every Tuesday at 8pm eastern. If you missed the episode, you can catch a replay on Hulu. Unfortunately, they always delay the replay by almost a week, so that doesn’t leave much time to catch up. However, Biggest Loser is pretty easy to pick up, even if you miss a week.

Just a quick warning: As the name suggests, the humor and the language can get slightly off color at times, but it’s all in good fun, so check it out.

Guest Post: The Digitante on HBG…

One of my biggest passions in life is writing these posts night after night. I do have many other passions such as my little girls, my wife, running, and last but not least, beer.

I like to consider myself somewhat of a beer connoisseur. A couple of weekends ago, I had the opportunity to check out a great beer in a city I’ve not been to before: Champaign, IL. While there, we checked out a restaurant called Radio Maria.

Since this site is more of a venue for techie stuff, I decided to off-load my beer posting elsewhere. I’ve been a reader of a blog called Hoosier Beer Geek for awhile. As a matter of fact, I’ve gotten the chance to hang out with the Geeks on a somewhat regular basis through various events hosted around town.

I was extra excited when they allowed me to share my trip to Champaign with their readers. Without further ado, here is the guest post I wrote up just for the Hoosier Beer Geeks.

If you want to check out some of the Geeks, here are their sites: Mike, Chris, Rod, Jess, Matt, and Jason.

Additionally, you can follow them on twitter by finding them on my Beer Twitter list.

Guest post: Noobie.com…

I’m racing against the cold medicine, so I need to make this quick:

A fellow techie and acquaintance of mine, Patric aka Mr. Noobie, runs a website called noobie.com. I am a guest poster on his blog over there with my post from a couple of nights ago about Twitter lists.

Feel free to head over and read (or re-read) the Twitter lists post. Also be sure to comment and let him know you came from The Digitante website!

I am hoping to have some more guest posts at various locations around the internet. I’ll be sure to keep you updated with my other appearances.
